L3 First Response Emergency Care – FREUC 3
This course is designed for those interested in a career in the emergency services or work in high-risk jobs. It provides learners with all the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage a variety of pre-hospital care emergencies such as: managing a patient’s airway, controlling a catastrophic bleed, managing fractures, and dealing with common medical emergencies.
HART Emergency Medical Services provides a practical aspect to this course delivered by the most experienced and competent medical practitioners by developing a realistic environment for a variety of medical/trauma scenarios that one may encounter while working in a pre-hospital environment to supply the learner with relevant and effective experience when dealing with situations requiring emergency treatment and/or management.
Course duration: 5 days - 35 hour of contact teaching in a blended format of online and face to face learning.
53 hours of total qualification time.
118 hours of self-learning.
To qualify within this course, the 3 mandatory components must be completed, and 53 hours of total qualification time will be required, including 35 hours of contact learning which are done over a 5-day period. Additionally, it is recommended that the student partakes in 118 hours of self-learning for which they will receive guidance from the instructors.

Unit 1: First Response Emergency Care
· Patient assessment
· Risk management and assessment
· Airway management
· CPR & AED usage
· Roles and responsibilities of a first responder
· Incident reporting - documentation and consent
· Catastrophic bleeding
· Emergency oxygen
Unit 2: First Response Emergency Care of Trauma
· Infection, prevention, and control procedures
· Head, chest, and spinal injuries
· Helmet removal
· Burns and scalds
· Poisons
· Sprains, strains, dislocations, and fractures
Unit 3: First Response Emergency Care of Medical Conditions
· Anaphylaxis
· Asthma
· Heart attack
· Stroke
· Diabetes
· Seizures
· Environmental exposure - hypothermia and hyperthermia
