L4 First Response Emergency Care – FREUC 4

Course requisites:

Individuals must hold the FREUC 3 qualification and must also have completed statutory mandatory training before undertaking this course.

This course is a next step qualification from FREUC 3 and is the equivalent of an Emergency Care Assistant (ECA). This is a Ofqual regulated qualification which is designed for individuals that already have background knowledge into pre-hospital emergency care and want to further develop their

knowledge and skills in a variety of pre-hospital care emergencies such as: major incidents, paediatrics, CPR and using immobilisation and extraction equipment to name a few.

HART EMS have the most qualified and experienced medical practitioners that deliver the practical elements in a real-life setting to further improve the learner’s experience in competently managing emergencies that could occur while working for the ambulance service or the public sector that requires medical cover. Additionally, this qualification can be used to form a series of pre-hospital care qualifications for the QA Level 6 Diploma in Paramedic Practice (RQF).

FREUC 4 – Course Breakdown

Course duration: 5 days - 39 hours min of instructor teaching in a blended format of online and face to face learning.

Total qualification time: 180 hours.

141 hours of self-learning.

To qualify within this course, the 3 mandatory components must be completed, and 180 hours of total qualification time will be required, including a minimum of 39 hours of contact learning which are done over a 5-day period. Additionally, it is recommended that the student partakes in 141 hours of self-learning for which they will receive guidance from the instructors.

Unit 1: First Response Emergency Care Assessment Skills and Medical Gases

· Patient assessment and management

· Cardiovascular system and relevant diseases

· ECG application and monitoring

· Airway management

· Emergency gases – oxygen

Unit 2: First Response Emergency Care Trauma Life Support

· Respiratory system – relevant disorders and infections

· Thoracic trauma

· Musculoskeletal system

· Nervous system

· Mechanisms of injury & kinetics

· Sexual assault

· Major incidents

Unit 3: First Response Emergency Care and Assisting Advanced Procedures

· Maternity care

· Sepsis

· Psychosocial development in children

· Emergency care for sick & injured children

· Mental health crisis

· Assisting with advanced clinical procedures
